Foreclosures and the Housing Market
The housing downfall in recent years, especially in California, has led to massive job losses and financial troubles for homeowners, most of whom have lost much or all of their home equity through no fault of their own. As a result, millions have lost their homes and millions more are still at risk of foreclosure, which hurts both imperiled homeowners and their neighbors.
I have voted for multiple measures to address these issues, such as creating the Neighborhood Stabilization Program and increasing funding for HUD-certified housing counselors. I also support the Obama Administration’s Making Home Affordable Program (HAMP). Together, these programs have revitalized communities across the country and helped hundreds of thousands of homeowners avoid foreclosure. However, these efforts are far from perfect, and I believe more must be done to support the housing industry and keep families in their homes, especially in hard-hit states like California.
