Capps Applauds California Valley Solar Ranch Groundbreaking
San Luis Obispo, CA -Today, Congresswoman Lois Capps (CA-23) applauded the groundbreaking of the California Valley Solar Ranch Project in San Luis Obispo County. Once complete the 250-megawatt solar power plant will deliver enough solar energy to Pacific Gas & Electric to power 100,000 homes. The project has been made possible in part by a $1.2 billion loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy.
The groundbreaking of the California Valley Solar Ranch Project is great news for San Luis Obispo County, and I would like to congratulate all of the partners involved in building a project our community can be proud of. The solar power plant is precisely the type of clean energy project envisioned by Congress when it passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act—it will put people to work now and into the future, while reducing energy costs and our impact on the environment. The installation period will create 350 local construction jobs over the next two years and inject hundreds of millions of dollars into our local economy. The project is also a win for the environment, helping California reach its landmark global warming pollution reduction goals by bringing 250-megawatts of clean power online. Once again, California, and the Central Coast in particular, continues to lead the way in a transition to a clean energy future, and that’s something we can all be proud of,” said Capps.
