Capps Remembers Eleventh Anniversary of 9/11

Sep 10, 2012

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Lois Capps (CA-23) released the following statement ahead of the eleventh anniversary of the September 11th attacks and the annual National Day of Service.

Every year on September 11th we mourn for the thousands who lost their lives on that fateful morning and for the families and friends they left behind. We must always remember this tragic event, and remain vigilant against those who would do our country harm.  It is also a time to honor the commitment of the men and women in our military, and their families, who every day safeguard the freedoms we hold so dear.

Finally, we must not forget how on September 11th this country came together, standing united in support of freedom, tolerance, and equality. America's strength is most evident when we stand as one people, united in our commitment to one another and the liberty we enjoy.  That strength is especially important to recall in these challenging times.  I hope all Americans will work toward achieving that unity on this National Day of Service, the largest annual display of charity and volunteerism in our country, and an incredible reminder of what we can do as a community and a nation when we work together.”
